At the Mystery Creek Fieldays, the North Island sales team of RX Plastics watched TV3’s Campbell Live programme, which featured the plight of a Kerikeri family forced from their home because of a shoddy septic tank installation.
With the installation company now out of business, the directors apparently vanished overseas, and with their environment contaminated, Matt Hobman, his wife Sasha, seven-month old son Kingston and three-year-old daughter Astyn, had to leave their home.
“When we saw the show about their situation, all of us agreed that RX could help,” said sales manager, Wayde Hastings.
“I then called our director and discussed this idea with him and he gave the okay. So Phil Brenchly, our North Island environment manager then spoke with the affected family explaining we were prepared to install a replacement system at no cost.
“I then spoke with Granada Contracting who are our installation agents in the Northland area and arranged with them to install this system for free.
“They in turn organised a digger contractor and electrician and we set about installing the system on June the 28th.
“From the RX perspective it highlights the need for people to be aware of what type of septic tank systems were being put in to their homes and the need for proven certified and independently tested systems to be the only option, so that this type of horror story doesn’t occur again.”
Matt Hobson was delighted.
“RX were absolutely fantastic. They got us back our home. They came in from outside, even when our home builders did not want to know. The guys at RX are just fantastic.”
Matt is now organising the clean up of several metres of contaminated soil from his own property, and a neighbour whose section was also affected.
